Our Music

A regular fixture on the West London circuit since 2012, The Geoff Garbow Band are much loved for their unpretentious, good time , no nonsense attitude to gigs They are getting a lot of interest for their original song writing abilities. Band members have played with many seasoned players and are regulars at Blues / Rock festivals around the country including the Swanage Blues Festival, The Ealing Club and the Crawdaddy.

Wikipedia tells us that Blues is a music genre and musical form which originated in the Deep South of the United States around the 1870s by African-Americans from roots in African musical traditions, African-American work songs, and spirituals.

Blues as a genre is characterized by its lyrics, bass lines, and instrumentation. Early traditional blues verses consisted of a single line repeated four times. It was only in the first decades of the 20th century that the most common current structure became standard: the AAB pattern, consisting of a line sung over the four first bars.

The Geoff Garbow Band both experiment with and respect these traditions but their vibe is distinctly West London – whether in environmental protest over Heathrow expansion or just singing the blues about life, love and toil.

One thing is for sure they are here to stay!

“An energetic and eclectic set mixing straight blues with dirty southern rock, funk and a splash of AOR…. They have been going for a while now getting stronger and more confident”

Ealing and the Blues

The founding of Britain’s first dedicated electric blues club – The Ealing Blues Club on March 17 1962 by Alexis Korner & Cyril Davies was to be the catalyst which sparked the Blues boom of the ’60s and subsequently British Rock Music. A rather well known West London band comprised of Mick, Keith, Brian, Bill, Ian and Charlie started out at the club in 1962.  Mojo Magazine has described Ealing as: ‘The Cradle of British Rock Music’. The club  closed its doors in 1966 but not before Manfred Mann, The Who and Rod Stewart had followed on from the Stones.

The Ealing Blues Festival, which started on June 28th 1987 celebrates this heritage and is now London’s longest running Blues Festival. The Festival was founded by Ealing born musician Bob Salmons (a.k.a. Robert Hokum) who remained the Artistic Director until his retirement in 2024.

The Geoff Garbow Band are regulars at the Ealing Blues Festival and will be on the main stage this year featuring Terry Marshall on saxophone (pictured at the top of this section with Terry back in 2017 – photo by Paul Dubbelman). They will also be featuring in the Rob Hokum Tribute Band.

Upcoming Gigs

These are some of the key upcoming events you can catch the band at.

The GGB will be on the Rob Hokum main outdoor stage at the Ealing Blues Festival. Click on the poster to go to Ticketline to buy tickets. There is no commission attached to this link – it’s just there to make it easier for you to come and see us.

“Key shattering Boogie Woogie” is how the Guardian newspaper described Ben Waters after a concert at Ronnie Scott’s—known for energetic performances and powerful renditions of early boogie-woogie and Rock n’ Roll.

We are delighted to support legendary boogie piano player Ben Waters. We don”t know if he’s back because he’s exceeded his limit post Brexit but Ben will not be playing at any French chateaux in late June. Instead he will be at The School Kitchen – the fabulous newly done-up Pavilion at the Quintin Hogg Sports Grounds (now run by Latymer School).

Tickets are available through the Ealing Club – click on the poster or here to be taken to their site.

Another festival we frequent is the excellent  Swanage Blues Festival. They’re a bit rock’n’roll and haven’t produced the 2025 poster yet. What they’re spot on at is lining up great acts. Their website lists who is coming next October.
